How Much Can You Borrow from a Licensed Moneylender?

28 November 2025 | Monetium Credit

There comes a time when our personal and professional development will be largely influenced by the financial resources we have at our disposal. Working hard, especially in Singapore, is not always enough, as our country is quite expensive and our opportunities for long-term development will often be influenced by the money we saved up and by the resources we can pour into investment opportunities.

Do you want to positively influence the future of your children? To invest in assets, courses, or businesses that hopefully will bring a positive ROI in the near future? If so, you will need money in order to make money, which, in 2025, can be a problem. Most likely, like the majority of Singaporeans, you don’t benefit from the financial resources to alleviate the impact of unexpected, external events, nor do you possess the money required to seize advantageous investment opportunities bound by tight deadlines. Therefore, you probably want to borrow money in Singapore from the best licensed money lenders present in our country.

Why Are Loans from Private Lenders a Good Idea?

Well, let’s put it this way. Where else are you going to find the monetary resources you require for your plans, with no questions asked, and with minimum documentation needed? If you are going to borrow money in Singapore, it makes sense to do so from private lenders like us, as our approval times are faster than what you can experience with conventional banks and our eligibility criteria are more lenient.

Our professional lending agency can work with you even if you currently have a credit score that most banks will find a deal-breaker. Do we promise that we will find a solution, no matter your current monetary situation? No, but we can assure you that we will take your application seriously and try to work out a deal that will work for both parties. Our services are useful if you are looking for fast cash with no collateral needed. Moreover, our financial packages collection is more diverse than what you can find from conventional banking institutions.

Sure, if you are in need of a long-term mortgage, that will amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars you will probably want to utilize the services of a legacy bank. It’s understandable. That said, what if you need a slight financial aid till the end of the month? Perhaps a payday loan that you will pay back in less than 30 days, or a personal unsecured loan that you can use for traveling or for an urgent medical intervention. Our offers are diverse and are suitable for both individuals with a stable financial situation, as well as for people who are looking to consolidate their debt into a DCL.

How Much Can I Borrow from a Moneylender?

Per the regulations laid forth by the Minister of Law, the maximum loan amount for unsecured credit packages, regardless of whether they are commercialized by private lenders or conventional banks, cannot surpass six times the borrower’s monthly wage. But that’s only applicable if your annual income is at least $20,000 per year, which shouldn’t really be a problem, as the median salary for full-time work in Singapore is currently somewhere around $5,500 per month.

Do you earn less than this, let’s say somewhere between $10,000 and $20,000? In that case, you will only be permitted to borrow up to $3,000. But that’s just a technicality, as in reality, pretty much no lender will be willing to offer you a credit package as long as your income is not above $20,000 per year. For non-resident workers, things are similar, with the exception that in their case, for an annual income of less than $10,000, the maximum sum they can borrow is only $500.

The total debt servicing ratio will also come into play. Technically, it doesn’t legally apply to unsecured credits, but in reality, the vast majority of lenders will be reluctant to offer you a credit package if your TDSR is more than 55%. After all, there is a limit on how much you can realistically borrow. Do you want, however, to remove the caps applied by the Ministry of Law and borrow more than six times your monthly income? In that case, you could secure your application with collateral, which will also have the added effect of reducing your interest rates, as the risks for the lender will be lowered.

What Types of Loans Can I Access?

So, you want to legally and quickly borrow money in Singapore. Well, in that case, you should know that the most utilized financial aid packages, by the vast majority of Singaporeans, are personal loans. These types of credits typically come with a repayment period that doesn’t surpass one year, and the interest rate associated with them is advantageous, albeit dependent on the particularities of your application. Personal loans can be utilized for pretty much any expense one can think of.

Do you want to invest in your children’s educational pursuits? Then, a personal loan can help with that. Do you want to change your wardrobe and try your luck at becoming a Michael Jackson impersonator? Seriously, good luck with that, but again, a personal loan could help you out. Flexible and lenient with the documentation required, the popularity of personal loans has risen in the last couple of years, and nowadays, debt culture in Singapore is much more accepted than it was ten or twenty years ago.

But not all loans are designed for long or medium-term repayment tenures. Sometimes, you only need a grand or two in order to cover your necessities till the end of the month. And this is where payday loans come in. Sure, their interest rates are typically close to the maximum levels permitted in Singapore since the 1st of October 2015. That said, since the money you borrow is supposed to be paid back in less than 30 days, these financial instruments can be helpful for emergency situations in which fast cash is of the essence.

It’s a Safe and Common Practice

Most payday loan applications are approved within a couple of hours, and when the OK is received, the money will be disbursed to your account with no delay. But what if you are a business owner and you want to invest in your venture’s development? In that case, you could try to apply for a business loan, or, if you are sick of your existing debt obligations and you want to merge them into a singular package, you might consider a DCL.

From collateral-based personal credits to bridging loans that can cover financial gaps while your property’s sale is finalized, the services provided by private lenders like us are diverse, and most importantly, safe. You don’t take our word for it? Well, in that case, you should know that our activity is supervised by the Ministry of Law, and we can only operate within the legal boundaries set by the Moneylenders Act of 2008.

Per SG regulations, our agency must be transparent with the financial services provided to customers, and we are not permitted to charge interest rates or administration fees for our commercialized financial packages that surpass the maximum values set by the SG government. TL; DR: We cannot charge you more than 10% of the loan principal as credit administration fees, the maximum interest rate for our credits is set at 4%, all charges of the loan cannot surpass 100% of the principal, and the late payment fees for the credit are capped at $60 per month.

What Paperwork Is Needed If You Want to Borrow Money in Singapore?

The documentation required for the application to our credit packages will be more straightforward than what you can find with conventional banks. That said, we will still require a copy of your NRIC and proof of your residency. Are you a foreigner living legally in our country? If so, you too are permitted to apply for private financial credits, as long as you can present a copy of your employment pass.

As proof of income, our agency will require at least the last three of your monthly payslips, and if you are self-employed, we will also need your latest CPF contribution statement and your most recent NOA. As for eligibility, you will need to be either a Singaporean citizen, permanent resident, or foreigner with a valid work visa, and have an annual income that allows you to borrow at least six times your monthly wage. Moreover, once we start processing your application, our agency will also check your MLCB credit history and obtain a copy of your credit score.

A good credit score in Singapore is considered anything above 1825, which will give a probability of default of less than 0.88%. It is possible to borrow money in Singapore even with a lower score than that. However, for such cases, most lending companies, including us, will ask for collateral. As a general rule, the higher your credit score, the more likely you are to obtain an unsecured credit with advantageous repayment terms.
